American banks love to affect a false pose of solidity and enduring strength. That’s why so much bank architecture mimics the classical columns of ancient Greece.

But the American financial system today is in ruins – much like the Parthenon.

So, how can it be that more than a year after the ignominious collapse of our financial system, banking reform still languishes in Congress?

A just-published book by former Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson – who wrote the trillion dollar checks – contends that taxpayers stand to make a profit on the bank bailouts.

Paulson’s conjecture is laughable in light of the more than $11 trillion of taxpayer infusions and guarantees committed to staunching our hemorrhaging financial system and stabilizing our economy. Even if it had a grain of truth, it still wouldn’t change history: the unprecedented intervention, the ruined personal wealth, the mass unemployment and our shattered economy.

President Obama has proposed a Consumer Financial Protection Agency to oversee credit cards and mortgages. Mega-money hedge funds would be required to register with the SEC. A Financial Services Oversight Council would target and regulate banks and financial firms too big to fail. A National Bank Supervisor would scrutinize problem banks. He even proposes a tax on banks to repay the government and the end of proprietary securities trading with depositors’ money.

Of course, the banking lobby is shamelessly resisting regulation the way car companies once smeared seat belts.

Elizabeth Warren, Chair of the TARP Oversight Protection Panel, recently wrote, “Now, a year later, President Obama’s proposals for reform are bottled up in the Senate. The same Wall Street CEOs who brought the economy to its knees have now spent more than a year and hundreds of millions of dollars furiously lobbying Washington to kill the President’s proposal.”

A high-paid Madison Avenue campaign, complete with focus groups and research conducted by Republican pollster cum television media guru Dr. Frank Luntz has been launched to fight off banking reform and demonize regulation. Incredibly, it could actually succeed in bamboozling the nation.

At the center of the Luntz's disinformation strategy is the patented Republican attack on “Big Government.”

Luntz advises the bank lobby to use their own huge bailouts, which have infuriated taxpayers, to confuse and obfuscate by implying that added oversight might also bring unwanted bailouts for the next banking crisis.

In essence, Luntz jujitsus taxpayer anger by attacking the federal government for spending to bail out private enterprise and then proposing new bureaucracies to more tightly regulate these very same institutions.

Luntz writes, “Ordinarily, calling for a new government agency to protect consumers would be extraordinarily popular. But these are not ordinary times. The American people are not just saying no. They are saying ‘hell no’ to more government agencies, more bureaucrats and more legislation crafted by special interests.”

Franklin Roosevelt launched an aggressive campaign to regulate large banks and financial institutions after the collapse of Wall Street in the 1930s. His tough policies kept banks out of the securities business and successfully regulated lending for more than 50 years.

But these rules were gradually loosened for banks beginning with Ronald Reagan’s anti-regulatory policies in the 1980s and continued during the Republican administrations of both Presidents Bush.

Even President Bill Clinton – seduced by huge contributions from Wall Street firms and led by his Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin (a former Goldman Sachs chief) – eliminated many crucial New Deal regulations.

President Obama’s crusade to bring back oversight to banks, hedge funds and Wall Street is crucial to protecting consumers and taxpayers! By attacking the very federal government that rescued them from almost certain extinction, a shameless and greedy bank lobby now bites the hand that fed it.

How twisted and cowardly is that?

Captain America and the Falcon come to realize that the sanctimonious racist face of the Tea baggers is tearing our Country apart. Hysterical white culture extremist fomenting racial hatred towards the first black President reeks of all that's gone wrong in the heartland. Taking direction from Right Wing pundits, who are shills for corporations and the status quo, instill fear in these people while fleecing and gutting the working class, how clever. Stop the socialist? Stop the Corporations that greedily have gutted what's left of the middle class. Why do these people trust the same people that sent us into the worst Recession since the Great Depression, and have cost them their jobs and any chance of ever being able to afford health insurance? What don't they get? Their so consumed by their hatred, they ignore all the facts staring right back at them?

It's amazing how the Republicans, Fox News,and Rush Limbaugh can continue to coerce these people to vote against there own best interest. And yet their fear of an educated black man is more than their white culture can handle. Making them easy prey for the Corporate shills who have them scared to death of some metaphorical boogey man. If they ever wake up and realize that they're being bled into poverty by the rich that play on their fears, we might be able to actually unlock the gridlock in Congress that's killing our Country.

Captain America recognizes that the sanctimonious Tea Baggers are right wing white culture extremist birthed by the right wing pundits, and headed by their Tea Bagger poster girl Sarah Palin. Even more amazing is the outrage by the right over this Comic book? Every sign you see in the panel above Captain America was taken from an actual Tea bagger's event.

Recently Ronald Reagan Jr. said that he's father would never have supported anyone as obviously incompetent as the likes of Sarah Palin (his brother Michael disagrees). Incompetency is like Pornography, you know it when you see it.

Last Friday Obama went to the belly of the beast to debate the GOP on their home court in Baltimore and Fox News had to disrupt their coverage by injecting Fox News talking heads talking over the debate ... while Obama, without a teleprompter, embarrassed the GOP by having a better command of the facts. Clearly transparency doesn't become the Republican Party. As this played out across televisions and computer monitors throughout the United States it became clearer and clearer that the Republican Party is unable to articulate their own positions?! (Except of course, their standard talking points...yawn)

What's really sad is that the Republican Party now has a real contender in Scott Brown, who now appears to be a really decent and intelligent person. At what point does he buy into the insanity, or does he stand tall, and keep his ground?

Will Sean, Rush, and Fox New's strategist Frank the Skank Putz contaminate Mr. Brown's soul? They're already representing what Mr.Brown stands for without having ever really having talked with him. So far, there's not a problem with Mr. Brown having done everything imaginable during his successful campaign to even begin to identify himself with the Republican Party...hmmm, wonder why?

And, we can thank pee brain Samuel Alito for opening the floodgates to corporate money in American elections. Hugo Chavez is elated. How's that a good thing? What was Alito thinking? His deeply flawed opinion will allow corporations, including foreign entities to spend without limit, to influence U.S. elections. What's this mean? It means your vote means nothing, why vote now, it's all bought and sold before you even get near the voting booth.
Another partisan decision since the Supreme Court decided Bush vs. Gore. Now that Activist bloc of the Supreme Court has decided to intervene in ALL ELECTIONS there's even more reason NOT TO VOTE. The criticism has included such childishness as blasting Obama for waiting a few days before making a national speech on the incident. For heaven’s sake, the president was briefed on the incident from the moment it occured; he made statements almost immediately indicating his concern and that he was being regularly briefed; he took time to gather the facts and meet with his national security team; and then he appeared publicly to give a rational, measured, but hard-hitting response. And for this, a former vice president criticizes him.

Partisanship truly has pervasively infected our political system when a reasonable, measured, factual, timely and substantive response by a president to a single security incident — the roots of which clearly indicate long-simmering problems that predated his tenure in office — is publicly blasted as irresponsible. In point of fact, those levelling such counterproductive attacks are the ones engaging in irresponsible behavior.

OK Republicans, where's the outrage? Who should we hold accountable? You were minding the store, and let the insurance and banking industries take such risks they robbed everyone in this country of the American Dream, except the rich and so called privileged .

A weak economy and a huge national debt isn't making us any safer. Anybody here want to connect the dots? Glen, Sean, and Rush don't seem able to deal with the facts, so why should you?

Someone(s) at AIG, the various CEOs and CFOs at the large banks, and the inept Securities and Exchange commission need to be arrested and join Bernie to rot away in some prison....but, since our government seems beholden to their lobbyist, the likelihood of any kind of Justice is most likely non-existent.

NO PUBLIC OPTION for a watered down health care reform bill that only benefits the Health Insurance industries. The beginning of the end of the current Democratic majority in the House and Senate.
   Why doesn't Joe LIEberman have the balls to accept Rachael Maddows invitiation to go on her show? Because he's a lying sack of sh*t that can't be trusted while all the wimpy Democratic Senators act powerless around him. Harry Reid acts like a plant for the Republican Party that's on LIeberman's short leash.

When the Generals on the ground in Afghanistan asked W and Dick for more troops, W and the Dick ignored them. Why?

Listen to all the Republicans now tell Obama to listen to the Generals on the ground. Where were they when troop increases were requested for Afghanistan during W and Dick's reign?

It cost taxpayers 1 MILLION DOLLARS for every year ONE SOLDIER that serves in Iraq or Afghanistan. The economy is being held together by spit and duct tape. What a Dick....

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Republican National Committee identifies ten (10) key public policy positions for the 2010 election cycle, which the Republican National Committee expects its public officials and candidates to support:

(1) We support smaller government, smaller national debt, lower deficits and lower taxes by opposing bills like [President Barack] Obama's "stimulus" bill; We created the deficit from a surplus, and by following the basic principles of "Reaganonomic" (tax cuts for the rich and deregulation) we created the worst economic melt down since the Great Depression! This is not a recession, this is the Republican Party's 2nd Great Depression... if you remember your history, Republicans were the architects for the first Great Depression.

(2) We support market-based health care reform and oppose Obama-style government run healthcare because we are beholden to the Health Insurance Industry, and their lobbyist.

(3) We support market-based energy reforms by opposing cap and trade legislation... polution is good..climate change is not based on real science (?) No reforms, no regulations, let's make things worse. If we can get away with promoting "Clean" Coal then we can sell anything. Cause, ain't nothin' clean about coal.

(4) We support workers' right to secret ballot by opposing card check. Since we hate Unions, and are continually trying to eliminate them, we really don't support worker's rights unless they are workers trading derivatives, credit default swaps, and criminally hedging huge profits for the wealthy at the expense of honest hard working Americans.

(5) We support legal immigration and assimilation into American society by opposing amnesty for illegal immigrants; Who doesn't, but this language isn't going to fix anything, it's a mess and this is another NO SOLUTION suggestion from Republicans.

(6) We support victory in Iraq and Afghanistan by supporting military-recommended troop surges; Like we supported victory in Viet Nam. We're only in Iraq because we were mislead there under false circumstances which justifies nothing, and why - after 8 years - do we still have our head up our asses in Afghanistan....what the hell have we been doing there...8 years and nothing accomplished? Stop listening to the Generals whine about why they havn't accomplished anything... 8 years later and we're still at square one? WAKE UP!

(7) We support containment of Iran and North Korea, particularly effective action to eliminate their nuclear weapons threat. OK, something we can all agree on.

(8) We support retention of the Defense of Marriage Act...and god bless ya for not wanting equal rights for all Americans. The youth of America, the Republican Governor of California, and pretty much everyone else has figured out that same sex marriages are INEVITABLE somewhere in the future....keeping steering towards the hard right...we can really shrink this party.

(9) We support protecting the lives of vulnerable persons by opposing health care rationing and denial of health care and government funding of abortion; and blah blah blah...we really don't care about health care reform...but, we had to come up with something?

(10) We support the right to keep and bear arms at Democratic Conventions, Democratic Events and wherever Obama may be speaking by opposing government restrictions on gun ownership; and be further RESOLVED, that a candidate who disagrees with three or more of the above stated policy position [sic] of the Republican National Committee, as identified by voting record, public statements and/or signed questionnaire of the candidate,or as identified by Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, or Glen Beck shall not be eligible for financial support by the Republican National Committee.

The benefits of diminishing returns is a smaller, stupider, Republican Party. God bless our elitist theocracy!

So, three strikes and you're out of the running for party funds. While some of the items on the list have broad enough appeal that many Democrats might find themselves agreeing with them, putting together seven out of 10 might indeed distinguish a conservative from a moderate or liberal. RNC members may vote on whether to formally adopt the resolution at a January meeting.

From September 11th, 2001 through Katrina, up to the Economic Meltdown, W and Cheney did their best(?) to make things worse.

Katrina, and it's mishandling by the Bush Administration, has become a metaphor for how inept W and Cheney handled the wars in Irag and Afghanistan, and their total lack of understanding of economics - and hence - the Economic Meltdown. Bush, Cheney, and the Republican Congress Katrina-ed the wars and the economy. How's that a good thing?

Bush blamed "Bad Intelligence" for misleading us into a war against "Weapons of Mass Destruction" when there never was any weapons to be found. Bush, Cheney, and their neo-con Republican cohorts cherry picked the intelligence that has cost American lives, and now not only threatens our economic stability, but the worlds!

Are you upset with the economy? If you're not, you should be. The fox raided the hen house and appears poised to do it again.... Looking for someone to blame? What were they thinking....

And now the biggest lie is being rolled out....the Republicans had nothing to do with all our economic woes...it's Obama's fault....

Here we go again. Meg Whitman, the latest in a long line of corporate chieftains promising to “run government like a business,” has formally announced her candidacy for California governor.

The conceit of America’s business elite is striking. Even after our entire financial system was nearly scuttled last year through the incompetence and greed of so many “brilliant” executives, they continue to peddle the myth that they are better qualified to run the country than anyone else.

Their attitude stems from the worn out “government/bad, private sector/good” argument. By this logic, we are supposed to believe that a billionaire CEO will run California better than a career civil servant or another qualified candidate.

Ronald Reagan crystallized the argument in his inaugural address, attacking government as America’s biggest problem. But Nobel Prize-winning economist Paul Krugman recently turned that mantra on its head, gently reminding us that during last year’s financial meltdown, business was the problem and government was the solution.

In the halls of power, business lobbyists love to contrast the mythological competence of corporate executives to the abject ignorance of elected politicians. They tout the private sector’s efficiency over the public sector’s profligate wastefulness. But the credibility of these clichés has been sorely eroded by the near-death experience of our free enterprise system.

Has Whitman unwittingly issued a promise that Sacramento will become even more dysfunctional than during the darkest days of the most recent budget meltdown?

Will her brochure claim the Lehman Brothers bankruptcy as a benchmark for the financial acumen she intends to bring to Sacramento?
Will her primetime TV spots call upon voters to remember the imminent collapse of the world’s biggest insurance company – AIG – before the federal government stepped in to rescue it?

Does the billionaire former CEO intend to send mailings reminding voters about corporate America’s multi-million dollar pay packages, which became universal symbols of greed and selfishness?

Or will Whitman’s speeches explain that last year’s trillion-dollar government bailout of big business is simply a model for what the private sector can do to breathe new life into a nearly bankrupt state government?

Come on Meg! Get real.

The widespread corruption and financial malfeasance that brought about last year’s crisis has sullied the collective reputation of corporate America. The “private sector knows best” adage simply no longer holds true.

But there is a more egregious fallacy at work in Whitman’s candidacy, the idea that corporate management and political leadership are the same thing.

Great leaders don’t wear green eye shades; they hire the people who do. And while watching the bottom line is an important skill, negotiating with the multiple factions in the public sector is far different than sending an executive edict to a corporate division head.

Corporations and the military have command structures and a strict hierarchy of authority. Democracy does not. Change depends on a leader’s ability to inspire, cajole and intimidate in an arena where almost no one is dependent on the leader for their livelihood and where a leader has no direct authority over an interest group or even a citizen.

In a democracy, the leader works for the people. In a corporation, the people work for the leader.

These are the attributes of successful political leadership:

First, leaders must have the charisma to marshal public opinion around an agenda. Second, they must be willing to confront the opposition without condemning their motives. Third, they must tirelessly court allies. Fourth, they must have insight into the motivations and constraints of opposition factions and their leaders. Fifth, they must be willing to fashion reasonable compromises in order to bring about incremental reform of a complex system.

Finally, a leader must be an active participant in the democracy. That means voting. Whitman’s failure to vote in elections throughout most of her adult life is bewildering, if not disqualifying.

On Sept. 15, 2008, Lehman Bros. declared bankruptcy and the world economy plunged into a catastrophic crisis. The Great Panic of 2008 felled American banking titans and wiped out $14 trillion worth of Americans' wealth - all in a matter of weeks. It was the worst financial moment since the Great Depression.

One year later, what's changed? What's been the evolution on Wall Street and Main Street that could prevent another disaster?

The sad answer is very little. The economic carnage from last year's collapse is far from over, especially for those of us on Main Street - a Federal Reserve official has estimated that the real unemployment rate is about 16 percent, and as of March, U.S. retirement accounts had lost about 40 percent of their value.

But the financial industry has been remarkably successful in its battle against increased regulation, and the phenomenon of banks being "too big to fail" has gotten worse, not better. If another financial panic were to hit right now, this country would be no better situated to cope than it was in September 2008.

Let's start with our overwhelming failure to pass sensible regulations over the course of the past year. Even before the crisis, former Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson admitted that the government didn't have the tools to prevent the disorderly collapse of an enormous financial institution.

Experts of all stripes admit that the financial wizardry of the last two decades has outpaced central bankers' ability to rein in excesses. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner suggested a possible legislative remedy back in March - allow the government to take over a failing firm before it kills others, and add a consumer-protection agency so that small and institutional investors can have some idea about what they're buying. So why didn't Congress, after making lots of noise, pass anything?

Part of the reason is because any new financial regulation will be complex, and it's a lot less sexy than overhauling the health care system. Congress doesn't know what to make of the infighting among federal regulators, either. These regulators, who failed so badly last year, have bridled at any attempt to hand over their power to new officials or agencies that might actually do their jobs.

And surely part of the reason is that the financial industry is dedicated to maintaining a gently regulated environment. Since November 2008, representatives of the industry have donated $6 million to members of Congress.

That's great news for them and bad news for us, because the "too big to fail" banks are only getting bigger. Thanks to acquisitions during the crisis, the banks that survived are larger and hungrier than ever.

Three banks alone - Wells Fargo & Co., JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America - each control more than 10 percent of the nation's deposits. (Ten percent used to be the regulatory cap, back when the federal government still remembered the impact of the Great Depression.) And the troubled Citigroup is so huge that federal regulators can't figure out how to shift it out of the Troubled Asset Relief Program. "Too big to fail and not strong enough to succeed is obviously no exit strategy at all," Elizabeth Warren, chairwoman of the congressional oversight panel for TARP, said in an interview last week. You don't say.

These bigger banks have returned to their old ways with a vengeance - paying outsized compensation packages to their employees and pushing exotic financial products that were widely blamed for the crisis, like credit swaps and collateralized debt obligations.

The newest and most exciting securitized products on Wall Street are life insurance policies that bankers hope to convince ill and elderly people to sell to them for cash. They'll package the policies into bonds and sell them to investors - who get paid more the earlier that people die.

If all of this sounds odious, that's because it is. We depended on our government to protect us from the kind of crisis that brought the world's economy to the cliff last year. It failed. But this second failure is less forgivable. Now we know what the dangers are, and still Congress and the White House won't act???! ! !

ONE TERM OBAMBA? By Clint Reilly

As I watched the funeral mass of Senator Edward Kennedy on television, a strange but not entirely unrelated thought crossed my mind:

Is it possible that Barack Obama will be a one term president?

It was little more than a year ago that Kennedy issued a ringing endorsement of Obama’s improbable presidential campaign. Kennedy was struck by Obama’s ability to motivate young Americans and he believed that the young senator offered a chance to heal the political divisions that had been tearing the country apart.

Today, the Liberal Lion has been laid to rest and Obama now finds himself in exactly the kind of divisive political dogfights that defined Kennedy’s accomplished career.

The point seems clear: A message of unity and inspiration may have been good for a landslide victory in November and a few months of 70-percent approval ratings, but it probably won’t be strong enough to pass health care, energy and education reform.

At least that’s what the numbers are saying. Obama’s job approval rating now hovers at 50 percent and prognosticators are predicting double-digit Republican gains in next year’s midterm congressional elections.

To be fair, Obama has been victimized by an unfortunate chain of events.

First, he was forced to write a multi-trillion-dollar check to bail out banks, auto companies and insurance behemoths, and to save the economy from imminent collapse. Obama had to spend his hard won political capital to save America from the sins of George W. Bush, Ronald Reagan and a generation of anti-government ideologues whose hands-off policies nearly precipitated another Great Depression.

Second, this ungodly expenditure of taxpayer money to save special interests from their self-inflicted wounds has angered Middle America and eroded Obama’s support among blue state independents.

Third, the huge deficits created to finance the bailouts have revived the credibility of conservative attacks on the profligacy of “Big Government,” as specious as they may be.

Fourth, Obama is facing a divisive national debate over health care reform. His lack of firm leadership and his wavering on a government-run insurance program has offended his liberal base and confounded the young idealists who invested their hopes and dreams in Obama during the campaign. More damaging, Obama’s lack of leadership has left a vacuum in the debate that has been exploited by right-wing demagogues intent on destroying the president’s agenda.

Finally, the war in Afghanistan threatens to ensnare Obama in the same contradictions that plagued George W. Bush: How do you measure success in Afghanistan? What is our exit strategy?

To confront these problems, Obama needs to discard vague appeals to hope, peace, post- partisanship and transformational change. He needs to take real positions and defend them.

Kennedy’s legacy offers Obama a valuable lesson in this regard. Born the year before Franklin Delano Roosevelt took office, Kennedy ended up becoming the most eloquent contemporary voice for New Deal liberalism. He was an uncompromising advocate for using government’s power to help people. During the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s he was the caricature Republicans conjured to paint a poisonous picture of government pandering to the poor and minorities at the expense of the white working class, middle class taxpayers and small businesses.

And yet he never altered his message or lowered his voice.

It would be too easy to say that Obama can triumph by emulating Kennedy’s fearless liberalism. He governs in a cautious era where voters are skeptical of both government and business. Progress is promised by technology, medicine and education – not government handouts. Money is tight. Jobs are scarce. The economic growth of nations like China challenges our own.

Still, President Obama must take real stands. Failure to do so and deliver on his promises could have grave implications for 2012. Does he have what it takes? The outcome of the health care battle will offer a big clue.

Doesn't matter that we have one of the worst Health Care Systems in the world, and that it's killing our economy. The U.S. Citizens Association refuses to acknowledge Reganonomics role in the collapse of our economy. And, it's not the fault of the Democrats, it's the fault of the Democrats and the Republicans. The repeal of the Glass Steagall Act followed by the de-regulation of Wall Street created the problem, and both parties are responsible. Anyone surprised?

The transparency issue is that at least the Republicans acknowledge they're a friend of "big business." Primarily certain Banks, the Insurance Industry, the Medical and Pharmecutical Industries, and Wall Street. The Democrats though don't want you to know how cozy they are with these same interest, and hence they're inability to get it together in regards to Health Insurance Reform.

     Outside a Maryland Town Hall authorities arrested a Fox New's Teabagger with a sign reading "Death to Obama, Death to Michelle And Her Two Stupid Kids." One Congressman's office is defaced by a Swastika sprayed by another Fox New's Teabagger while other Teabaggers and Birthers heckle Congresspeople at Town Hall meetings and create videos and placards likening Barack Obama to Hitler. Other teabaggers with guns are showing up anti-Obama protest, while Fox newsanchors applaud, and encourage this kind of behavior.

     A Fox Teabagger vandalized Congressman David Scott office by spray painting a swastika on a sign outside his office while other Fox Teabaggers brought military styled AR-15 type rifles to an anti-Obama rally in Phoenix. Congressman David Scott's response to the Fox Teabagger's vandalism was, "We have to make sure that the symbol of the swastika does not win, that the racial hatred that's bubbling up does not win the debate." Rupert Murdoch must be sooooo proud.

John Diaz, "If Sarah Palin had any credibility left after her abrupt resignation as governor of Alaska for the sake of her family and to focus on "effecting positive change as a citizen without a title, " she exhausted it with her contemptuous assault on health care reform."

Sarah Palin, "The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama's "Death Panel" so his bureaucrats can decide, based on subjective judgement of their level of productivity in society, whether they are worthy of health care. Such as system is downright evil."  Even though this comment of hers has been exposed to reveal absolutely no basis in any kind of fact or reality Fox New's Teabaggers have embraced the lie while Rush Limbaugh continued to fan the embers of the "Death Panel and nut job Republican Representative Virginia Foxx suggested seniors might be "in a position of being put to Death by their government."

Since Republicans have given up on rational and logical discourse, which understandably is what obstructionist resort to , check out this woman that doesn't even realize she's humiliated herself on National television. Recently Sean Hannity came out on his radio show and said he believed in Jesus followed by an applause sound bite? I'm confused, was he talking about the Jesus, as in Christ? How can you be a shill for the Insurance industries, and say you believe in Jesus in the same breath? The insurance and banking industries don't give a crap about the the poor and the uninsured, and they sure don't give a damn about the unemployed and smaller banks and insurance companies. Is this Jesus that Sean talks about a lobbyist for the banking and insurance industries?

What's really entertaining about this is that these protest are being sponsored by the lobbyist and health care related industries that are threatened by any kind of health care reform. The Rush and Fox News Disciples are willing to do the dirty work for the Lobbyist and Corporations that historically have demonstrated they don't give a rats ass about these people. And once again, the American public is getting what Governor Sanford gets when he visits his mistress in South America....SCREWED.

Can you imagine how great this country would be if Fox News had one iota of true blue patriotism? Instead of this get the President by any means (usually dishonesty) possible. Racism and arrogance appear to be what's keeping what's left of the Republican party together. So Fox News, Rush, Sean, Lou (CNN),and Glen can continue to speak for the Banking industry Lobbyist, Corporate Medical Lobbyist, Corporate Pharmeceutical Lobbyist, and the Insurance Industy Lobbyist while Democrats in Congress run around with their tail between their legs... because most of them are beholden to these lobbyist also.

April 21, 2009: TMZ reports on Sean Hannity's latest hairdo disaster while Fox News and Rush Limbaugh continue to undermine any attempts to repair the economic disaster brought on by the Republican Party. Did you forget to attend the tea-bagging? A lot of people did, or just didn't buy into the stupidity of it all.
As you can see elsewhere on this site Fox News, and in particular Sean Hannity ,missed the coming of the economic collapse well after the stock market tanked and claimed that the country's economic fundamentals were still strong? None the less, Sean and Rush are still pushing tax cuts and de-regulations in a supposed free-market enviroment. Somehow no one at Fox News figured out that when Alan Greenspan said that the free-markets would self regulate themselves, he was clueless. Or, are Sean and Rush, unable to make the Reaganomics connection here?

As self anointed political and economic messiahs Sean and Rush defend torture (and Dick Cheney) claiming that these tactics have worked since there have been no attacks on our country...well, as long as you ignore the fact that we were attacked on their watch. Sean Hannity claims that Los Angeles was saved by torture. That if we had not tortured there might not be a Los Angeles! Anyone catching the fear mongering drift here? If Rush and Sean aren't scaring you, their not doing their job.

Bill Clinton (with Alan Greenspan appreciatively looking on) signing the repeal of the Glass Steagall Act/Banking Bill of 1933. Huge mistake! (No one in this picture is innocent. Big problem is if we look into this piece of history a lot of current Senators and Congressmen that voted for this repeal, at their lobbyist (banking and insurance industries) request, are hoping this can be swept under the carpet.

The bill that ultimately repealed the Glass-Steagall was introduced by Republican Phil Gramm. The bill was passed along Republican majorities along party lines: 54-44 in the Senate and 343-86 in the House. The Republicans final bipartisan bill had a large enough majority to override a Presidential veto, so this new legislation was signed into law by Bill Clinton on November 12, 1999.

The Banking Industry had been seeking to repeal the Glass-Steagall Act since the 1980s.

The repeal enabled commercial lenders such as Citigroup to underwrite and trade mortgage back securities and collateralized debt obligations, and structured investment vehicles (SIVs) that bought those securities. Even though SIVs existed before the repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act, Most economist today see the repeal of this Act as the cause for our current economic problems.

     Nationalize bankrupt banks? Hell, let's nationalize our bankrupt health care system. We are the sole industrialized nation without health coverage? How does that make sense while American taxpayers are bailing out the financial system, the auto industry, and are being called upon to rescue free market capitalism from the abyss?

     Our employer-based health care model is as bankrupt as Detroit's auto industry - which ironically was laid low by skyrocketing health insurance premiums.

     A patented attack on "Socialized Medicine" has been the insurance industry's nuclear weapon in the long war to resist universal health care. For two decades, they have argued that the same industry that spawned AIG (which required a $150 Billion taxpayer bailout) is better equiped to manage health care than the U.S. Government?

     The World Health Organization ranks France's health care system the best in the world. The United States is rated an embarrassing 37th!

     Have you grown weary of the private sector's unanswered public relations war on government? Is our Federal Government perfect? Oh course not. But neither is it the corrupt and incompetent caricature portrayed in ads resisting oversight and regulations by utilities, banks, developers, insurance companies, and yes - Republicans.

     The demonization seems increasingly hypocritical afater these same corporate titans and their political allies have squandered so much of our national treasure.

     Who would you trust to manage America's health care? Insurance companies like AIG or the people's government?

     The real question is: do you think access to health care is a right or a privilege? Who could say to any person who was sick that health care is not a human right? Only an Insurance Company (or a Republican).
